It's odd that little is said of Jesus' life between 12 and 30. The assumption is that he was just working until the time is right. Yet there are many legends in Britain of him visiting there. As Price shows, these legends are old and many. The bible also may have clues, as it may indicate Jesus had been away for awhile. Is it not odd that 18 years are left unmentioned? This is probably the most comphrensive book on this subject. Sometimes Price repeats things or goes into some side roads of history, but there is a lot to consider here. He states (pp. 17-18) that the gospels don't say where Jesus got his powers. Um, did Price miss the Son of God thing? On p. 33 he asserts the gospels make "contradictions" on Jesus' last words. Isn't reasonable to claim each writer only recorded the parts they heard or were told? And on page 45 he refers to some unnamed "contradictions" in the bible. Sometimes Price's zeal for finding references of Jesus in Britain produces some thin logic. Like this (paraphrashing), "Since Jesus and his uncle may have been in Britain, in all likelyhood they were at Stonehenge, and since it may be haunted, maybe Jesus learned about casting out demons here." If you keep a look at for leaps in logic and the maybes and hopefulls, there's still a lot here that suggest real history. No evidence, let alone 'Extraordinary Evidence', is presented here.
Therefore (sadly) I must rate the book 1 star. Well written though.
First let me say that I am a Christian and do not believe the traditional story that Jesus spent his time in Palestine between the ages of 12 and 30. Price does a great job of highlighting areas of the scriptures (same as my own case) that paint a picture of a person that has arrived back home after being away for so long. The traditional story of Jesus growing up as a carpenter was enforced by the Roman Catholic Church centuries ago and adopted later by Protestant Churches that had no reason to contest it.

Price's research is good for this book but there is a lot of personal assumption and speculation that goes off the deep end in some areas. For example, Price attempts to imply that the reason why Jesus prayed in high places during his three year ministry was because there were many high places in Glastonbury and the surrounding areas. Another assumption (that Price was well convinced of) was that Jesus was an expert mariner. As I am sure Jesus did have many hours of water time in his life, I wouldn't say there's enough evidence or narrative in the scriptures to suggest that he could command a vessel to sail on his own to England as Price wants to imply. These were just a few of the stretches that Price attempts when linking Jesus' experiences in England to be the foundation of many of the practices and customs Jesus later demonstrates during his ministry.

Finally I would say that Price's lack of understanding for the "divine" Jesus is evident. In portions of the book, he speaks of events and historical figures that Jesus "might" have known about if he were to have truly spent time in England. If Jesus was simply only a human being, then his points may have been valid but this was not the case. The Scriptures show Jesus was more than just man, but God and man. Being God and man, there's nothing Jesus "might" have known, instead he knew everything. Without this divine characteristic, Jesus is just another prophet. The conflict occurs when Price explains how Joseph of Arimathea was a believer that Jesus was the Messiah. Price is not a Christian so naturally he will look upon Jesus as a person and not as the all-knowing divine creature The Bible and Joseph believed he was. If Joseph petitioned Pilate for Jesus' body and offered up his grave to him at the time of his death, then there must be a deep belief on Joseph's part that Jesus himself was the anointed one. Price's attempt to humanize Jesus and at the same time explain Joseph's passion for Jesus at the time of his death was confusing. Personally, I think Price missed the point of who Jesus was and not for the fact that he is not a Christian but just for the lack of effort to see the viewpoint Joseph had of him.

Overall the book was a great collection of facts that support Jesus' possible voyage outside Palestine. I enjoyed it very much and find this to be one of the better books about the topic.
A disappointment. I know that Dennis Price is capable of real scholarship, but this book betrays a lack of information about the authorship and authenticity of the New Testament, particularly the gospels. Shepherds, Magi, walking on water, casting out demons, etc. are surely myth. Much of "Missing" hinges on what I am sure is a misreading of the text descibing Joseph of Arimathea's tomb.
The book is nicely copy-edited and printed and contains interesting speculation, but is not to be taken seriously.
Well presented with plausible arguments. A thought provoking and interesting read that makes you want to delve further into this line of research!
